50th Anniversary Celebration May 17-19, 2024

We are pleased to invite you to join us in celebrating and reflecting on God’s faithfulness over the past 50 years of College Heights Baptist Church.

During the May long weekend we are planning a series of events. We encourage all those who have attended College Heights Baptist Church in the past or are attending at present to participate in the weekend activities. More details will follow in the coming months, but as a placeholder there will be three opportunities to join in on the celebrations.

  • Friday evening: Informal gathering where people are invited to stop in to CHBC and connect with old and new friends. Casual food will be provided.
  • Saturday evening: An evening event where people are invited to reflect on their own personal journey and experience of God’s faithfulness at College Heights Baptist Church, both past and present. Food will be provided.
  • Sunday morning: An opportunity within our regular service schedule to look ahead to where God is leading College Heights Baptist Church.
  • In order to assist with planning for the weekend, we request that you please RSVP here.

Please pass this invitation along to anyone that may be interested in participating in this weekend of celebration and reflection. All future updates for the weekend will be provided on the CHBC event page.

Do you have a photo or a memory to share? A 50th Anniversary Kudoboard has been set up. Access Kudoboard here.

CHBC is once again participating in the annual Citywide Spring Cleanup. We'll be picking up litter around our neighborhood on Sunday April 21st, after the second service. As with other years, we'll offer a quick pizza lunch in the basement, and then we'll go from there. Everyone is welcome to join! Besides the pizza, we'll also supply bags, disposable gloves, etc. Just so we can estimate pizza and cleanup supplies, it would be helpful if you'd let Randy Seabrook (randysea@telus.net) know that you plan to attend. You can email him or sign up in the foyer between services. There is no sign-up deadline, as both the pizza and supplies are quite flexible, but please do sign up if you can. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Thank You

The Harris, Nicholson and Paradoski families would like to thank our church family for all their prayers, condolences, meals, flowers, cards and support following the passing of our beloved son and brother, Scott.

Prayers for family & missionaries

Jeff & Sonya Kilmartin, NAB

See the Missions foyer board for their letter. All our faith communities really are at very different stages of faith from one another. Some of the leaders have graduated from seminary and know their Bibles fairly well, while there are whole villages where knowledge of the cross or the resurrection of Jesus can be said to be slim to none. It was a real joy, then, for me to preach and teach on those truths to people who are very interested in hearing about them. Part of the reason some of the people do not know those stories, is that they are so new to the faith. Just a little while ago, a woman visited a friend in one of our villages, and while she was there she became a follower of Jesus. She went back home and told her husband that this was the happiest place she had ever been; the women work alongside the men, they worship together, and the whole community helps one another. She convinced her husband they ought to move there with their family. Three weeks ago they did just that, and now the husband and children have also chosen to follow Jesus. That is sort of how evangelism goes there.

Sonya did teaching with the local primary school teachers. Not only so, but she was also able to give instruction on pedagogy to the principals and teachers of the government schools in the district. I have started my next round of on-line teaching (this time I have students), and today I am having fun talking about Luther, and justification by faith, and why indulgences were not the greatest thing since sliced bread. I will do my best to include a section on the history of the church in Africa as well, which I am enjoying researching right now. Thanks to all of you for your prayers for us, our ministry partners, and the work here to let people know about the cross and resurrection of Jesus
